About Me

By day I am a Business owner, Mother and wife, house cleaner, taxi driver and laundress, obtaining physical health through raw food nutrition; this being my personal challenge. Actually I love cooking and learning new things, I am an on & off raw Foodist to help me with my Systemic Lupus; however I do eat raw fish and sometimes raw dairy. I guess I would consider myself a "raw pescatarian" aside from the occasional raw goats milk / cheese once in a blue moon.

Remembering bits of my raw past

I remembered some random things today from times past;

1) a)If you're a new raw foodie, don't tell family members or close friends you're going raw unless you are confident you will have their support. I had more people give me a "you gotta be crazy" look if I discussed it with them. It was disheartening, especially considering that I wasn't doing it for fun.

b) don't EVER under any circumstances offer your food to anyone who is not raw unless they are clearly fishing for a bite. No matter how good it is to YOU, don't do it. Unless they're drooling over it, then... in that case, they just claimed the whole dish.

It simply seems that the best way to deal with it- at least for me- has been to simply shut up, do my thing, and if anyone happens to notice my better health and happiness, I wait for THEM to ask questions. It is then, and only then, that they're receptive to the information I give. Keep it simple, and let them draw you out instead of being a flood of information once they finally ask about it.

2) My teeth were way cleaner when I was 100% raw. Now I admit, I am a floss-aholic - I floss at least once a day. But when I was raw, I didn't FEEL like I needed to floss (my teeth still felt totally clean). I guess the lack of processed sugar and breads helped that. I know, because when I'm not raw, sugars and breads seem to make me want to brush just an hour or two later.

As far as my meals today, I had Starbucks soy mocha - Thanks, Highlands Church!
Lunch was a huge salad of spring greens with a new dressing which I loved, and I will post here. I topped the greens with avocado chunks, apple chunks, sprinkling of bee pollen, two figs quartered up, pine nuts, and chopped tomato.

The dressing Recipe:
Equal amounts of lemon / lime / orange juice
Fresh thyme (recipe called for dill- oh well)
Salt, 1/2 an avocado and emulsified it with flax seed oil. Love it!!

Although I did eat a cooked dish for dinner (pasta and turkey meatballs w/ sauce), I finished my night with a raw smoothie;

1 banana, 2 T raw chocolate, blend til smooth and add nut milk to desired consistency. I did about 16oz of milk, a perfect tasting thinner smoothie, just what I like. Yum. Hoping to wake up happy tomorow!
I will try to take pictures to post. Kinda makes it ALOT more interesting!
