Lately I've been remembering the old adage "You can't take care of others unless you take care of yourself". I sometimes feel like my world is consumed with taking care of others, and I do tend to put myself last in many situations. But when the stress gets too much, my body tells me- and I'm basically forced to make a change, Raw food being my first choice because I know it works- for ME.
A friend asked me to explain more of how the raw food makes me FEEL- as far as improvement goes.
Well, so far (how many days has it been? Hmm not many) I have seen definite improvement in my frame of mind- My stress level is lower- I am sleeping more soundly (something I noticed last time too). I noticed last time also that I definitely need LESS sleep- which became almost annoying last time but I don't recall why. I can see that my body is responding well so far, since I only took about an hour "cat nap" yesterday- the day that I took Anthony to the hospital. I basically got about 3 hours sleep max (one at night, and two after returning from hospital). I pretty much hopped out of bed and did a full day of work, a little teensy bit zombie-ish but stayed up til 10ish that night no sweat. I am trying to not give raw fooding the credit for every little positive thing- so, we'll see how things progress. Just no more hospital runs, please. Another thing I've noticed, is that my allergies completely go away when I'm raw- something the doctors have not been able to fix. I hated it!
One negative about being raw- I tend to be cold in the winter months. There is of course something comforting about warm foods in the winter, and I've heard that the living enzymes can still live up to 115 degrees. Those living enzymes is the ticket to health, so I'm thinking about heating up raw soups a bit. Or at least having hot tea at night for sure! Also- I'm watching my hands & joints; Having lupus, my joints can feel icky, and I've noticed it's pronounced when I eat beef! Weird.
Breakfast today- Mocha (steamed nut milk, espresso, raw chocolate, honey) and later a bowl of granola cereal w/ nutmilk. Closer to lunchtime actually!Dinner- Bought some raw Cheddar cheese from Nature's Touch in Templeton and had those with chips .. OK FRITOS!! ha! Then I made a sushi-style roll with a blend of walnuts, soaked sunflower seeds, and various seasonings and whatnot.(see picture) I don't care for the recipe much so I won't post it - I don't want to post recipes if I wouldn't serve it to my best friends. :-) Main dish will be a salad of mixed spring greens w/ tomatoes and mushrooms, Avocado, pine nuts, shreds, bee pollen (Templeton farmers market) and blueberries and mango chunks. I made a great dressing yesterday and I will top it with that!
G'nite!
J.
